Getting Started: USB OTG ADB Connection

How to Connect via USB OTG

  1. Plug a USB OTG adapter into your host phone (running ADB OTG Shell) and connect a USB cable to the remote target device.
  2. On the remote target device, open Settings and go to About phone.
  3. Tap Build number seven times to enable Developer options, if they are not already enabled.
  4. Open Developer options on the remote target device and enable USB debugging.
  5. Grant the USB device permission prompt on your host phone when requested by ADB OTG Shell.
  6. On the remote target device, tap "Allow" or "Always allow from this computer" on the USB debugging authorization prompt.
  7. ADB OTG Shell will automatically detect the connection and establish the ADB session.

USB OTG Auto-Detection: The app monitors USB device attachment and state changes, guiding you step-by-step until the connection is established.

On-Screen Connection Guides: Dynamic step-by-step prompts help you navigate USB permissions on both host and target devices seamlessly.

USB Configuration Tip: On certain target devices, switching the USB mode ("Use USB for") to "Charge only" or "File Transfer / MTP" helps trigger ADB recognition.

Explore Every Screen in ADB OTG Shell

1. Connection and USB OTG Setup

This screen helps establish the USB OTG connection and guides you through the USB debugging authorization workflow.

  • Connection monitoring: Real-time device connection status updates ranging from waiting for OTG connection to device connected.
  • Step-by-step prompts: Visual instructions for host USB permissions and remote USB debugging prompts.
  • Automatic transition: Automatically navigates to the terminal when a connected device is detected.

2. Interactive ADB Terminal

The Terminal provides a command interface for interacting with the Android shell after a successful connection. It is designed for both quick commands and longer command sequences.

  • Command execution: Run supported shell commands such as pm, am, settings, dumpsys, top and logcat.
  • Single-line input: Enter and execute commands individually.
  • Multiline input: Compose or paste longer command sequences and shell scripts.
  • Command history: Return to previously entered commands using the terminal toolbox.
  • Command bookmarks: Access saved commands without repeatedly typing them.
  • Output controls: Clear the display and manage the terminal's output buffer.
  • Configurable scrollback: Adjust the amount of retained terminal output to suit your workflow.
  • Script sharing: Share supported .sh or .txt files from a file manager into the app's script-execution workflow.

Command permissions depend on the Android shell identity, Android version and device. Desktop ADB client commands and shell commands are not interchangeable; commands that manage ADB transports require the corresponding client-side functionality.

3. Quick Commands and Bookmarks

This section brings frequently used shell operations together so you can run common tasks without manually entering every command.

  • Categorized commands: Browse commands grouped into Screen, Power, Connectivity, System Settings, Input & UI and Pro Utilities.
  • App management shortcuts: Run supported actions to force-stop applications or inspect the current foreground activity and package.
  • Display and device utilities: Access supported display-related commands and device-specific options, including refresh-rate controls where compatible.
  • Connectivity and settings: Access shortcuts for supported system settings and connectivity operations.
  • Execution output: View command results and error output in an interactive bottom sheet.
  • Copy and clear: Copy results for troubleshooting or clear the displayed output.
  • Custom bookmarks: Add, edit, search and categorize frequently used commands for quick reuse.

4. Advanced App Manager

The Apps section provides an interface for inspecting installed packages and performing supported package-management operations.

  • Installed app inventory: Browse app names, package names, versions, icons and other available package information.
  • App filters: Filter packages by System, User, All, Enabled and Disabled categories.
  • Sorting: Organize apps by app name, package name, size or version-related information where available.
  • APK installation: Install individual APK files using the supported installation workflow.
  • Split APK installation: Install compatible multi-file packages such as split APK sets or supported APKS archives.
  • Transfer progress: Follow installation or file-transfer progress and cancel supported operations.
  • APK extraction: Export installed APK files to local storage where permitted.
  • Launch and force-stop: Start applications or stop their processes using supported package operations.
  • Enable and disable: Change package enabled states where Android permits the operation.
  • Suspend and unsuspend: Use supported package-suspension operations (Android 15+).
  • Archive and restore: Access package archiving or restoration workflows where supported by the Android version and implementation.
  • Clear data and cache: Reset an app's stored data or cache where the operation is permitted.
  • Package diagnostics: Inspect available package information using dumpsys.

Package operations can have significant consequences. Disabling or suspending an app, clearing its data or stopping a system package may affect device functionality. Some operations are restricted for protected packages and system components.

5. Real-Time Process Manager

The Processes section helps inspect running applications and processes, identify their associated IDs and review available process details.

  • Process listing: View available process names, process IDs (PID), user IDs (UID) and associated package information.
  • Filtering: Group or filter User, System and All processes where the available data supports these categories.
  • Sorting: Organize the list by name, PID, UID, memory usage or execution state where available.
  • Process details: Inspect available technical fields such as PID, parent PID (PPID), UID, resident memory (RSS) and process flags.
  • Process actions: Use supported termination or force-stop operations for eligible processes.
  • Copy process information: Copy diagnostic details for analysis or troubleshooting.

Android may restrict process visibility and termination, particularly for protected system processes. Memory and execution details depend on the data available to the app.

6. Remote Device File Manager

The File Manager is designed to browse files on the connected Android device and perform supported file-management operations through the available ADB permissions.

  • Directory navigation: Browse accessible directories, including shared internal storage and other permitted paths.
  • Breadcrumb navigation: Track the current directory and navigate through parent folders.
  • Upload (push): Transfer local files to a directory on the connected device.
  • Download (pull): Copy accessible remote files to local storage.
  • Transfer controls: Monitor progress and cancel supported transfers.
  • File operations: Create folders, rename items, copy paths and delete files or directories where permitted.
  • Folder bookmarks: Save frequently used locations for easier navigation.
  • Search and sorting: Find files and organize them by name, size, modification date or file type where available.
  • In-app previews: Open supported image, PDF, text and log files in the app's viewers.

Access to protected Android directories and application-private data is subject to Android security restrictions and the privileges of the connected shell. ADB access does not automatically grant unrestricted root access.

7. Display Controller

The Display section provides tools for inspecting and adjusting supported display configuration values, useful for testing, gaming and troubleshooting display layouts.

  • Display metrics: Review the active screen resolution, density and available display bounds.
  • Custom resolution: Apply a supported width and height configuration.
  • Density adjustment: Set a custom display density (DPI), for example 320, 420 or 480, when accepted by the device.
  • Overscan controls: Adjust top, bottom, left and right margins on supported configurations, particularly useful for compatible Android TV setups.
  • Reset option: Restore the default display configuration using the provided reset workflow.

Display changes may alter the size of interface elements or the usable screen area. Compatibility varies by Android version and manufacturer, so use the reset option if the resulting display is unsuitable.

8. Remote Control and Input Pad

The Remote Control section offers input tools for navigating the connected Android device and sending supported key events or text.

  • Remote text input: Enter text on your phone and dispatch it to a supported input field on the target device.
  • Directional pad: Use Up, Down, Left, Right and Center/OK controls for navigation.
